Institut du Monde Arabe
1 rue des Fossés
St-Bernard (5è) Open: |
The Arab World Institute is the result of an agreement between France and several Arab countries to promote cultural exchange. The architect Jean Nouvel put modernism to work in this building that inspires a feeling of purity, inspiration, and calm. The tradition of Moucharabiehs inspired the intricate metal latticework that carefully regulates the amount of outside light let into the building. The Institute offers a library, a bookstore, and a museum of Muslim civilization, the site of many different types of exhibitions. The top floor has a tea room, a restaurant, and a terrace with a breathtaking view of Notre Dame and all of Paris. |
